Westminster Synagogue has two Torah scrolls on loan from the Memorial Scrolls Trust, both from Bohemia in the Czech Republic, one which we believed over many years was from Horažd’ovice and the other from Přeštice

As a result of research into a newly discovered archive in Prague, we have recently discovered that the Torah scroll we thought was form Horazdovice in fact came from Horovice.

Regardless of the above, we shall continue our interest and understanding of who were the Jews from Horažd’ovice and continue to keep in touch with the Town where we have placed many Stolpersteine in front of the homes of the Jews who perished in the Holocaust. We also keep in touch with the sole survivor of the Jewish population of Horažd’ovice.

This new discovery has given us an opportunity to turn our attention to Horovice and we now look forward to explore the Jewish history of this town also.

Each year, the Synagogue organises a comemmorative event between 22nd and 26th November to remember the lives of those people who were brutally murdered simply because they were Jewish.
