In this three-part series we will embark upon a thorough journey through the world of mitzvot and Jewish law. We will encounter provocative questions, modern thinkers and classic rabbinic interpretations.
Saturday 7th September: She is not (entirely) in Heaven: Principles of liberal halakhic decision making
Is there such a thing as a liberal Halakhah? Where does its authority come from and what criteria do liberal halakhists employ in their decision making? Come and see a few ancient midrashim through a modern lens.
Saturday 9th November: Not just yet: How do we intentionally accept mitzvot?
In this session we will explore the concept of Kabbalat Ol Mitzvot - intentional acceptance of mitzvot as a continuous and lifelong endeavour.
Saturday 7th December: Men in charge of discharge: A deep dive into the rabbinic period
Throughout millennia the Rabbis had a lot to say about female bodies and their functions. Let us flow through the laws of Niddah as we reflect on the themes of sanctification and oppression.
What is Oneg Shabbat?
Once a month we come together as a community to dive in and explore a chosen topic over a delicious lunch.
Who can come?
This group is for members of all ages who have joined our services and want to engage in discussions about services at WS.
Do I need to bring anything?
We ask members to contribute in whatever way they can. This may be through bringing a dish, donating an amount towards our cost or volunteering (setting up, washing dishes, hosting table etc.) on the day.
Please note, that we ask anyone bringing in a dish to ensure it does not contain meat or shellfish, and is nut-free!
Sorry, Registration has ended.
