12:45 PM - 2:15 PMWhat is Oneg Shabbat?
Once a month we come together as a community to dive and explore a chosen topic over a delicious lunch. They are held from 12:45-2:15pm after the Shabbat Morning Service. This year the Onegs are being taught in series of three and in January-March we will be learning with Rabbi Benji on the topic of Mitzvot.
“On Three Things The World Stands: Torah, Spiritual Service and Acts of Loving Kindness” (Pirkei Avot/ Ethics of our Ancestors). Continuing with the focus on Mitzvot/ a lived Judaism, we will take each of these three things, considering the Mitzvot that you can do to make these things foundational to your life and the world.
11th January: Talmud Torah Keneged Kulam, Learning Torah is equal to all the mitzvot: We will consider this Rabbinic claim, asking what it really means. We’ll explore some mitzvot of learning Torah, exploring how to learn and why. We will also learn some Torah!
1st February: Torah Techilitah Gemilut Chasadim. Torah, it’s beginning is the act of loving kindness. We will consider the connotations and power of chesed, love made manifest in act. We will explore some of the mitzvot of how to do chesed: for example, when during the day should you call or visit someone in distress?
8th March: Avodah: We will explore some of the mitzvot of how to pray/ how to do Jewish spiritual practice, considering our own personal practice.
Who can come?
This group is for members of all ages and if there is a particular topic you would like to see covered please let us know.
Do I need to bring anything?
We ask members to contribute in whatever way they can. This may be through bringing a dish, donating an amount towards our cost or volunteering (setting up, washing dishes, hosting table etc.) on the day.
Do I need to book in?
Yes. There is no charge to join us for the Oneg, but we have limited seating in the room and so want to ensure that we don't disappoint people. To book in, click on the links below, or contact Louise Wendel.
