Kabbalat Torah

Kabbalat Torah is a two year programme primarily for students in Years 9 & 10 at school. The programme is open be for members of our own community and those from outside, and includes the following:

  • Monthly learning sessions on a Friday evening from 5:00-7:00pm (away from the BM groups). A chance for the group to get together, catch up and further their Jewish education together. Our Rabbis also work with this group, as well as speakers who address topics such as Israel, social action, Jewish life on university campus, spirituality and other topics of interest 
  • Monthly opportunities for help teaching and leadership training at Or Shabbat
  • Visits to places of Jewish interest including an interfaith visit and a volunteering opportunity in the community
  • A European residential in Autumn 2018 to Budapest with students from other reform synagogues in addition to a UK residential with other Kaballat Torah groups in early 2019
  • The chance to develop the skills to lead a Friday night service and to develop further service leading skills for the Shabbat morning service
  • The chance to develop become an MST Museum guide

Year 1 culminates in the leading of a Friday night Kaballat Shabbat service whilst Year 2 culminates on Shavuot 2019 with a graduation Shabbat service when the group will collaborate to lead the Shabbat morning service.
