We’re excited to welcome Dalia Fleming, Exec Director of KeshetUK as our next Westminster Voice on Friday, 28th June, after our Shabbat Evening Service. With London Pride the following week, join Dalia as we learn about KeshetUK and Jewish LGBT+ history.
The first UK Jewish gay and lesbian organisation formed in 1972, eventually becoming known as the Jewish LGBT+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans) Group. Over the next 40 years, Jewish LGBT+ life continued to develop in the UK with the birth of new LGBT+ religious communities and social groups, ordination of LGBT rabbis, and availability of same-gender weddings/commitment ceremonies in some communities.
In spite of this, within the Jewish community there remained significant ignorance about LGBT+ issues, with a large number of LGBT+ people choosing not to engage in Jewish communal life, with consequent lack of provision, for young people, adults and older adults. The community noted a lack of Jewish themed resources and guidance for educators to use to support and advise LGBT+ Jewish people, and to create inclusive Jewish community. KeshetUK has become the sole organisation that works across the Jewish community working to ensure that no one has to choose between their LGBT+ and Jewish identity.
Join us for our Shabbat service at 6:30pm before we share a special seated Kiddush together and learn with Dalia. Whilst there is no charge to join us we do ask attendees to make a small donation towards the running of these sessions.
