Shavuot 2019

60 members and friends joined together on Saturday 8th June to celebrate Shavuot. Thanks to Colette Littman, we welcomed guest speaker, Antony Polonsky, the evening was a great success, with double the number of people in attendance. 20 members stayed on to support our first Tikkun Leil after the dinner as we welcomed Eli Gaventa from UJIA to lead a study session, followed by member Jessica Beecham leading a cooking session as part of our Kent House Kitchen.

A Sunny Update

As you know, Renee and I are currently in Barbados until mid-February. We've settled in very well and are enjoying the beautiful surroundings and weather on the Island. The Nidhe Israel Synagogue community is warm, kind and hospitable and in many ways no different from our own Westminster Synagogue. They laboured hard and long to renovate their historic 17th century building ten years ago, one of the oldest Synagogues in the Western Hemisphere, and which had already once been rebuilt in the 1800s following a major hurricane in the area.

Budapest Residential

Last weekend I led a group of teenagers from Westminster Synagogue along with with their peers from East London and Essex Liberal Synagogue (ELELS) on a weekend trip to Budapest. My fellow leaders on the trip were Rabbi Richard Jacobi, and Student Rabbi Sarah Rosenbaum Jones.

Reflections on Poland

“It is hard to explain the feelings but so easy to recognise them, words won’t do justice to the arc of emotions I experienced. I learned so much about the history, evolution and perseverance of the hearts and minds of Jews in Poland and Eastern Europe.  Sharing Friday night dinner at the JCC with 70 community members, learning Torah from a Holocaust survivor and hearing the cries of new babies reminded me of the strength, joy and future to be found in creating and sustaining community relationships and life. Venetia

Induction Service of Rabbi Benji Stanley

Westminster Synagogue were delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor of Westminster, Rabbonim and many other distinguished guests to their community for the induction of Rabbi Benji Stanley on Sunday, 18th March. Rabbi Benji takes up his post at Westminster following the retirement of Rabbi Dr Thomas Salamon, who, having led the community over the past 20 years, will become Emeritus Rabbi later this year.

Tu B'Shevat 2018

Wednesday 31st January embodied the Westminster spirt of learning and growing as 40 members came together to celebrate Tu B’Shevat with an engaging Seder led by our Head of Education, Nick Young. The group tasted a lot of fruit, discussed Jewish Responsibility to the world and listened to Yair Zivan, foreign policy advisor to Yair Lapid, Chairman of Yesh Atid. The evening was a great success and you can view photos below.
